Frequently asked questions

What is the likelihood of my car being written off?

Modern cars are very safe and designed to crumple in the event of impact - unfortunately this results in more vehicles becoming total loss on insurance. OVER 500,000 VEHICLES BECOME TOTAL LOSS EACH YEAR IN THE UK!

What is a "Total Loss"?

When an insured person has claimed under their comprehensive motor insurance policy and the claim has been settled, with the vehicle forfeited and a total loss payment made.

Why are your premiums so much lower than the dealers?

Our Web site allows you to buy direct and pay the same wholesale premium that a dealer would pay.

Must I buy GAP insurance from the garage I am buying the car from?

No. Your dealer may put you under pressure to buy from them as it is a good source of commission (as is evident from the increased premiums usually charged). You may purchase GAP from any supplier.

How long after the purchase of my car can the GAP insurance be bought?

You can purchase the policy up to 90 days after the invoice date on your dealer invoice.

Is the quote a one off cost?

The premium quoted is the total cost (including Insurance Premium Tax) for the entire term. No Catches, No extras, no hidden charges.

Can I take out GAP insurance if I purchased my car from a Private seller?

Yes you can, with no increase in premium at all. Please check with us to make sure your car qualifies.

Do I need GAP Insurance if I have New for old Insurance?

New for old replaces like for like, so your insurer will source your current model from the cheapest place. Wouldn't you prefer the latest model or perhaps even a completely different car? Don't forget, after the first year you will not only lose the limited cover your insurer offers - you will be unable to purchase GAP insurance as it can't be taken a year after purchase. So yes, GAP insurance is definately of value if you have "New for old" from your motor insurer.

How long will GAP insurance last?

RTI GAP insurance is available for up to three years (depending on premium paid, or you sell or transfer ownership of the vehicle, whichever is the sooner.

Can it be transferred if I sell the car?

No, the insurance only covers the person or company who paid for the insurance whilst the car is under their ownership.

Must I be the Policy Holder for the Motor Insurance policy?

No, the only stipulation is the GAP insurance Policy must be in the same name of the registered keeper. (That's the name on the V5 / Log book for the car)

Are there any exclusions?

The car must be under 7 years old and have completed less than 80,000 miles at the start of the policy.

There are certain cars which are excluded please refer to the terms and conditions tab for full details or check with a GAP insure representative.
